Alyssia Duplessis and Christopher Herrera

Alyssia Duplessis of Rancho Cucamonga, California, and Christopher Herrera of Albuquerque, New Mexico, announced that they are engaged to be married.

Ms. Duplessis, 20, is founder of a charity called Project Shine Through in Los Angeles, California, which provides support to teens looking for somewhere to belong. She attends Azusa Pacific University in Glendora, California. Ms. Duplessis graduated from Rancho Cucamonga High School in Rancho Cucamonga, California. While in college, she majored in business and leadership.  In high school, she was awarded high honors from the National Society of High School Scholars. 

Mr. Herrera, 22, is a student at Azusa Pacific University in Glendora, California, scheduled to graduate in Fall 2014. Mr. Herrera graduated St. Christopher Academy in Ventura  California. 

Mr. Herrera is the son of Lydia Herrera of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Phillip Herrera of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Herrera’s mother is a writer in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who has written a book on raising children with ADHD. Mr. Herrera’s father is a retired entrepreneur. He was a noted high school football and basketball player.
